To every mom who’s questioned herself because of others — this is for you.

Breastfeeding is natural, but the emotional toll it can take on a new mom — especially when surrounded by unsolicited advice — is anything but easy. This is my story of doubt, overwhelm, and unsolicited advice. But also of learning, unlearning, and finding quiet confidence in my body and instincts.

The Sentence That Broke Me

“Your milk is not enough.”

If you’re an Indian mom, you’ve likely heard this line at least once. Probably more.

Who says it?
Neighbor aunties, relatives, sisters-in-law, mothers-in-law… sometimes even our own moms.

When do they say it?

  • When the baby cries during the day
  • When the baby cries at night
  • When the baby looks thin (even when they’re healthy)
  • When the tummy doesn’t look full after a feed
  • When the baby struggles to latch
  • Sometimes even when the baby is simply… breathing

What do they say?
“You’re starving your baby.”
“Give something else if your milk isn’t enough.”…
